This City Never Sleeps

As the board reshuffle at Macau's Shanglifer Group approaches, chairman Koon Chi Sum unexpectedly announces his retirement, igniting a fierce succession battle between his eldest son Koon Hiu Yin and younger son Koon Hiu Kwan. Hiu Yin, who believed victory was within his grasp, is stunned to learn that his father intends to anoint Hiu Kwan as successor. On the eve of the election, Chi Sum is mysteriously kidnapped for ransom; Hiu Kwan and his ambitious wife Wong Suet Ying scramble to raise the money to save him, while the calculating Hiu Yin pressures the board of directors and leverages his secret lover Kwok Chi Yuen—a journalist—to dig up damaging material on the directors, turning the tables. Just as the result is about to be announced, someone at the meeting overturns the election outcome on the spot.

At the relaunch ceremony of the family's luxury yacht Kwan Lun Fang, Koon Chi Sum signals that the chairmanship will be up for fair competition between his two sons, officially firing the opening shot of the clan feud. Meanwhile, the sharp-tongued Hong Kong prosecutor Hung Hoi Wan launches a high-profile investigation into Shanglifer's alleged bid-rigging and confidential leaks, summoning the three Koon men to testify. In court, Hoi Wan dismantles their defenses, forcing eldest son Koon Hiu Yin to be immediately suspended—only for Hoi Wan herself to be hit by a conflict-of-interest inquiry that blocks her promotion. At a tense family gathering, Hiu Yin drops a bombshell engagement announcement that stuns everyone present.

Koon Hiu Yin makes a high-profile announcement that he will marry Hung Hoi Wan, which simultaneously defuses his obstruction-of-justice crisis and turns the spotlight onto his younger brother Koon Hiu Kwan and sister-in-law Wong Suet Ying. It is revealed that Hoi Wan and Suet Ying were once as close as sisters, until Suet Ying stole Hiu Kwan away from Hoi Wan. The news devastates Hiu Yin's mistress Kwok Chi Yuen, who is pregnant; egged on by Suet Ying, she believes Hiu Yin is forcing her to abort, and storms the luxury wedding to demand justice. She sends a USB drive containing Hiu Yin's incriminating evidence to Hiu Kwan, and Hoi Wan risks everything to break in and steal it back.

The Shanglifer chairmanship election restarts, and the brothers Koon Hiu Yin and Koon Hiu Kwan both scramble for Vice Chairwoman Yiu King Hung's four decisive votes. To win her favor, Hiu Kwan and his wife Wong Suet Ying misuse client data to help her son build an AI competition program—a move that plants the seeds of their downfall. The calculating Hiu Yin, using journalist Fok Pui Wa to dig into the leak, uncovers a scandal: King Hung's son plagiarized the algorithm. Hiu Yin forces King Hung to defect in exchange for burying the evidence. Pui Wa then proposes an alliance with Hiu Yin herself, and the intrigue deepens.

With Yiu King Hung defecting to support Koon Hiu Yin, Koon Hiu Kwan fights back and persuades his father Koon Chi Sum to set the Rua do Cunha redevelopment project as the final test: Hung Hoi Wan and Wong Suet Ying must compete head-to-head for residents' authorization letters, with the winner taking the chairmanship, and the brothers forbidden to interfere. The two former rivals return to their old neighborhood and launch a bidding war over key homeowner Hui Lik Fung, who holds a stack of authorizations. Just when everyone thinks the result is settled, the cunning Chi Sum drops another bombshell on the eve of the board vote, upending the entire plan.

On the eve of the election result, Koon Hiu Yin mysteriously collapses and is rushed to hospital; Koon Hiu Kwan makes a show of a truce while maneuvering behind the scenes. Meanwhile, the new LKS Group director Johnson launches a hostile assessment of Shanglifer and shamelessly demands that eldest daughter-in-law Hung Hoi Wan sleep with him for one night as the price of approval. The whole Koon clan silently agrees for the sake of their interests. Furious, Hoi Wan teams up with justice-minded journalist Fok Pui Wa to stage a livestream designed to expose Johnson's predatory behavior—but it inadvertently dredges up a buried trauma belonging to street figure Hui Lik Fung's girlfriend Wan Lai Yan, triggering a chain of tragic consequences.

Although Johnson's misconduct is exposed, Wan Lai Yan's tragedy turns Hung Hoi Wan into the target of online public outrage. Seizing the opportunity, younger sister-in-law Wong Suet Ying secretly sabotages Hoi Wan's plan to set up a compensation fund, determined to make sure Hoi Wan never recovers. With Hoi Wan in disgrace, Koon Hiu Yin keeps a cold distance, letting Koon Hiu Kwan step in to persuade Hoi Wan to withdraw from the family feud. Just as Hoi Wan reaches her lowest point, she discovers that Hiu Yin had secretly orchestrated a plan to clear her name all along.

At Yiu King Hung's suggestion, Koon Hiu Kwan eyes the senior post left by Johnson as a springboard onto the LKS board. Koon Chi Sum orders the brothers to cooperate for the first time, persuading key director Lo Ping Lun to support the star-tier membership scheme. To win him over, Chi Sum sends Hung Hoi Wan and Wong Suet Ying to separately charm Ping Lun's two wives. Unexpectedly, one of the wives falls into a mysterious coma from poisoning, and both daughters-in-law are instantly arrested on murder charges. Ping Lun weeps before the media, accusing Chi Sum of causing the death of his late wife and now trying to kill his current one, plunging the Koon family's reputation to rock bottom.

LKS's latest decision sparks fierce pushback from both Koon Hiu Yin and Koon Hiu Kwan. At a family breakfast, the two sons clash bitterly with their father Koon Chi Sum, who furiously threatens to cut off their funding. Completely disillusioned, Hiu Yin moves out of the Koon mansion with his wife Hoi Wan, resigns as co-CEO of Shanglifer, and announces the launch of the "Dream City Development Fund" to declare war on his father. Not to be outdone, Chi Sum immediately sets up a rival fund and pledges a staggering ten billion to crush his son. When Hiu Yin secretly reaches out to overseas tycoon Chan Jai Suk, Chi Sum intercepts the deal and arranges a one-on-one meeting, as the two generations of power brokers face off in an ultimate showdown.

After Koon Hiu Yin shoves Koon Chi Sum down a staircase in their father-son showdown, the patriarch lies critically injured and comatose in hospital, leaving Shanglifer in a power vacuum. Hiu Yin and Hiu Kwan each manuever with their own agendas as an internal earthquake looms. Meanwhile, Ting Lai Ming (Jiang Meiyi)—Hiu Kwan's biological mother, locked in a psychiatric hospital for thirty years after allegedly poisoning Hiu Yin's mother—suddenly drops her madness and demands to see her son. She holds the password to a secret fund known to no one but herself, and her return threatens to shatter the family's fragile balance.
